Hey, I’m Alex, a Melbourne-based drummer and multi-instrumentalist originally from rural NSW. I started playing drums and guitar at age 10, largely teaching myself by ear before moving to Melbourne to pursue formal music training.
I am currently completing a Bachelor of Music at Monash University, specialising in jazz performance (drums/percussion), where I have had the privilege of learning from incredible drummers such as Dave Beck, Danny Fischer, Gerry Pantazis, and Alastair Kerr. I am especially passionate about Latin and Brazilian jazz, and regularly perform with the Monash Latin Jazz Ensemble, the Monash Brazilian Jazz Ensemble, my band ‘Powder Blue’, and across various session projects around Melbourne. As a teacher, I balance strong technical foundations with ear training and expressive playing. My goal is to help students develop feel, confidence, and musical independence, not just the ability to read what is on the page.
